Fast-rising Nigerian singer Ayo Maff has revealed that he left his parents’ house in Shomolu, Lagos, at the young age of 16. The 19-year-old artiste shared this during a recent interview with Hip TV, reflecting on his challenging early life and the motivations behind his decision.
As the first child in his family, Ayo Maff explained that he left home because he wanted better opportunities not only for himself but also for his family. He said,
“As the first child of my family, I left home at 16 because it was not easy in there. Life in Shomolu is hard, fun and also exciting. Without living in Shomolu, I wouldn’t have the experiences of singing about them. I wouldn’t have truly seen the reality of life that shaped me.”
He added that after leaving, he stayed with a friend for over a year while pursuing his dreams. Despite his mother’s concern, he reassured her that he would regularly check in on the family.
