Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have neutralised three suspected bandits in Wase Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday in Jos by Maj. Samson Zhakom, the Media Officer of OPSH. According to Zhakom, the operation was based on credible intelligence that led the troops to a known criminal hideout on the outskirts of Pinau community.
“Yesterday, troops of OPSH, acting on credible intelligence, conducted offensive operations at a criminal hideout along the fringes of Pinau community in Wase LGA,” he stated.
During the raid, the soldiers encountered armed criminal elements suspected of terrorising residents along the Pinau–Gimbi road. In the ensuing gun battle, the troops overpowered the assailants with superior firepower, resulting in the death of three suspected bandits.
Zhakom noted that several others fled the scene with gunshot wounds. He added that one AK-47 rifle and a magazine were recovered during the operation.
He further revealed that a follow-up mission was already underway to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle their network.
Operation Safe Haven is a multi-agency security outfit tasked with maintaining peace in Plateau and parts of neighbouring states.
