The Anambra State Government has officially named its newly constructed Government House, initiated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, “The Light House Awka,” in line with the state’s slogan, “Light of the Nation.”
The announcement followed the weekly State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting in Awka. Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said the name reflects the symbolic and strategic importance of the new Government House Mini City, seen as a beacon of administrative progress.
The EXCO also established the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission, following the recent signing of the Anambra State Electricity Law. A recruitment drive has commenced to bring in qualified professionals to staff the new commission.
In a related move, the government resolved to confiscate and seal all facilities used as holding places for child beggars, citing provisions of existing laws against child exploitation.
The council also approved three contracts worth over ₦350 million to be completed within six to eight weeks. These include ₦190.48 million for constructing a pharmaceutical-grade kaolin warehouse in Ukpor, ₦110.11 million for extending the Nnewi Industrial electricity line and installing a 750 KVA transformer, and ₦155.65 million for uniforms and operational gear for the Ocha Brigade, the state’s security enforcement agency.
Governor Soludo’s administration continues to push forward infrastructure, regulatory, and social welfare initiatives aimed at transforming Anambra State.
