The Benue State Appeal Court has declared Hon. Sunny Oche as the duly elected Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, overturning a previous tribunal ruling that had nullified his victory.
The judgment settles the dispute that followed the October 5, 2024, council elections conducted by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission. The court ruled that the election was lawfully conducted and that Oche was validly elected by the people of Ado.
Supporters of Hon. Oche erupted in celebration, describing the judgment as a win for democracy and the will of the people. Speaking in Abuja, Oche dedicated the victory to God and the people of Ado, especially those “deprived of purposeful leadership.”
“This is for the forsaken, the ordinary people who stood under the sun and rain, praying for justice,” he said.
Calling the ruling a “tripartite victory” — for voters, democracy, and those who challenged the tribunal verdict — Oche warned against any future attempts to undermine his mandate. He said impersonation would not be tolerated and warned that the law would be fully enforced.
Urging all stakeholders to accept the judgment in good faith, he called for unity and cooperation in delivering development to Ado LGA. He also rallied support for Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, in the fight against insecurity.
Oche further commended APC State Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Omale, for his unwavering stance on justice and party unity.
