Chief Martin Onovo, former National Conscience Party (NCP) presidential candidate, has stated that no single opposition party can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. He told NAN in Lagos that a strong coalition of opposition parties is the only viable way to challenge the ruling APC.
Onovo praised efforts led by former PDP candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to build such a coalition, calling it “the step in the right direction.” He added, “A united minority is stronger than a divided majority.”
Recalling his role in forming the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) during the Fourth Republic, Onovo said, “The coalition will win the 2027 election with 99 percent of votes if it is not self-sabotaged.”
Onovo urged the APC-led government to focus more on security and improving living standards, noting that little progress has been made so far. He called on President Tinubu to strengthen his cabinet with technocrats rather than loyalists and emphasized the need for effective leadership and anti-corruption efforts.
He stressed, “We need the right commanders with strategies in security and economy to end insecurity and suffering. We must not sacrifice performance for loyalty.”
Onovo also warned that addressing inequality is critical to reducing social tensions and insecurity across Nigeria.
