Tottenham Target Brentford Boss Thomas Frank as Postecoglou Successor

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur have identified Thomas Frank as their top candidate to replace Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed on Friday despite leading the club to Europa League glory last month.

According to multiple reports on Monday, Spurs are preparing a formal approach for the Brentford manager, who has impressed in the Premier League since guiding the Bees to promotion in 2021. Frank has been in charge of the West London side since 2018 and remains under contract until 2027, meaning Tottenham would need to pay around £10 million ($14 million) in compensation.

Postecoglou’s sacking comes just weeks after he ended Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought by beating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in Bilbao. However, a disastrous 17th-place finish in the Premier League—losing 22 of 38 games—ultimately cost him his job.

Frank, a former Danish youth coach and ex-Brøndby manager, joined Brentford as an assistant before stepping up when Dean Smith departed for Aston Villa. After falling short in the 2020 Championship play-off final, he led the club to promotion the following year and has since delivered consistent top-flight stability. His league finishes with Brentford include 13th, 9th, 16th, and 10th, despite the club regularly selling top talent.

One of Frank’s key assets, Bryan Mbeumo, is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United following a standout season in which he netted 20 Premier League goals. However, reports suggest Frank would like to bring the Cameroon international with him to North London if a deal is reached.

The BBC reported that a formal approach from Spurs is imminent, signalling Tottenham’s intent to swiftly secure their new man before pre-season preparations begin.
