Popular Nigerian stand-up comedian Oluwaseyitan Lawrence Aletile, widely known as Seyi Law, has publicly stated that he will never support the presidential ambition of former Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi. Seyi Law’s refusal is rooted in the attacks he claims he and his family endured from Obidient supporters following his backing of President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections.
In an interview on the Teju Babyface podcast, Seyi Law expressed his frustration with Obi’s failure to condemn the actions of his supporters, who he alleges attacked his wife and children online. The comedian emphasized that his anger is manageable, but any attack on his family is unforgivable.
“The moment you cross that boundary from me to my children, mother, and wife — there is no forgiveness,” he declared. He continued, “That is why there is nothing on earth that Peter Obi can do that will make me support him.”
Seyi Law also criticized Obi for not publicly addressing the actions of the Obidient movement, which he described as detrimental to free thought. “Any organization that does not support free thinking is a cult,” he added, suggesting that Obi’s refusal to take responsibility for his supporters’ actions had permanently damaged his reputation in Seyi Law’s eyes.
In his concluding remarks, Seyi Law made it clear that no matter what changes Obi might make, including adopting a more virtuous public persona, he would not back him. He said, “Let Peter Obi wear the garment of Jesus Christ today — he will never get my support.”
