Port Harcourt – As Nigerians mark Democracy Day and await key developments in Rivers State politics, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reiterated his unwavering commitment to upholding democratic values, protecting citizens’ rights, and ensuring inclusive governance.
In a statewide broadcast from Port Harcourt on Thursday, Governor Fubara reassured residents of his administration’s focus on the rule of law, fundamental freedoms, and open political participation—regardless of party affiliation.
He emphasized that his government remains dedicated to safeguarding lives and property through improved security measures and pledged to uphold transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in all areas of governance.
Reflecting on 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule in Nigeria, the governor called for unity and collaboration across political lines. “Our shared progress depends on the ability of every citizen to be heard, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential,” he said.
Addressing the recent political crisis in the state, Fubara described it as a stark reminder of democracy’s fragility and the importance of defending it with vigilance and commitment. “Democracy must be nurtured,” he stated, “and we must remain anchored in its principles through both triumphs and trials.”
He outlined his administration’s achievements in strengthening democratic institutions, protecting civil liberties, and advancing inclusive policies aimed at long-term development. According to the governor, governance in Rivers has focused on fairness, accountability, and creating systems for responsible oversight.
