Fubara, Otti, Otu Reaffirm Commitment to Democracy, Rule of Law

Date:

As Nigeria marked Democracy Day, Governors Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, Alex Otti of Abia, and Bassey Otu of Cross River reaffirmed their dedication to democratic principles and good governance.

Speaking in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara restated his commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting citizens’ rights, and promoting inclusivity. Despite political turbulence in Rivers, he said his administration remains focused on transparency, security, and effective oversight. “Democracy must be actively protected and nurtured to remain strong and meaningful,” he said.

In Abia, Governor Alex Otti described democracy as the only system that equalises the rich and the poor by empowering citizens to hold leaders accountable. In his message titled “The Priceless Treasure of Democracy”, Otti said the June 12 anniversary calls for a deep reflection on citizens’ roles in sustaining democratic values. He, however, noted that challenges like poverty, insecurity, and poor infrastructure still undermine its promise.

Also marking the occasion, Cross River Governor Bassey Otu pledged to deliver the dividends of democracy to his people. He congratulated President Tinubu and other national leaders, and reaffirmed his commitment to the principles of inclusive governance and development.
