LAGOS – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State on Tuesday presented party flags to its 57 chairmanship and 376 councillorship candidates ahead of the July 12 local government elections.
At the official flag-off held at the party’s State Secretariat in Ogba, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, pledged full government support for all APC candidates.
“This ceremony marks the beginning of hard work. We’re behind every candidate and confident of victory,” Sanwo-Olu said, urging aspirants to uphold the party’s progressive ideals and deliver on promises if elected.
Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, called on the youth to mobilize support and prioritize community service over personal gain. He also encouraged aggrieved aspirants to remain patient and loyal to the party.
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, emphasized party unity, urging members to respect APC’s decisions and rally behind all candidates.
APC State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, praised the peaceful conduct of primaries and ongoing reconciliation efforts. He reminded candidates to focus on key areas such as education, health, and youth development.
Chairman of the party’s campaign committee, Alhaji Babatunde Balogun, urged Local Organising Committees to commence aggressive grassroots mobilization, cautioning that campaigns must stay within the June 9 deadline set by electoral guidelines.
He directed that each council’s campaign should be led jointly by the APC LGA chairman and the council chairperson.
Flags were handed over to all chairmanship, vice chairmanship, and councillorship candidates across the 57 local government areas and LCDAs, with notable aspirants including Moyo Ogunlewe (Kosofe), Kehinde Oloyede-Almaroof (Oshodi), and Ameen Olawale (Ikorodu North).
The event was attended by APC chieftains, elected officials, and party supporters from across the state.
