Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as Yemi My Lover, has called out Nigerian music star Olamide for allegedly refusing to respond to his calls after using his name in one of his songs.
In a recently circulated video interview on social media, Ayebo revealed that although several artists and content creators have used his popular nickname “Yemi My Lover” in their works, he has never been compensated for it.
“Olamide was the first to use my name in his song, and I was so happy,” the actor said. “My name is blessed by God, that’s why both Davido, Olamide, and others including skit makers are using it.”
Ayebo recalled an encounter with Fuji legend Pasuma, who questioned whether Olamide had reached out to settle with him after referencing his name in music. Ayebo replied that he had never even met the rapper, prompting Pasuma to call Olamide directly.
“Pasuma picked up his phone and called him that I came to report him,” Ayebo recounted. “Olamide told Pasuma to give me the phone so he could speak with me. That was the first time we spoke, and he told me to collect his number from Pasuma and call him.”
According to Ayebo, despite receiving Olamide’s number, the rapper failed to respond to his calls or messages over a six-month period.
“I called Olamide for more than six months. He didn’t pick my calls. I messaged him and he didn’t reply,” he said.
While Ayebo acknowledged that the mentions of his name had boosted his visibility, he expressed disappointment over the lack of direct communication or recognition from the artists involved.
As of now, Olamide has not issued a public response to the claims.
