IBBUL Student Stabbed to Death by Suspected Robbers in Lapai

Date:

A 200-level student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), identified simply as Jafar, has been killed by suspected armed robbers in his off-campus residence in Lapai, Niger State.

The tragic incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, in the Ndakitabu area. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants broke into the student’s apartment and stabbed him in the neck before fleeing the scene. Neighbours quickly raised an alarm, prompting a police response, but the suspects had already escaped.

Jafar was rushed to the Lapai General Hospital by police operatives but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The killing sparked outrage among students of the institution, who took to the streets in protest, blocking the Agaie-Lapai road. The protest, however, was brought under control by the prompt intervention of security forces deployed to the area.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, Superintendent Wasiu Abiodun, stated that tactical teams have been mobilised to restore peace and intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

He said, “Armed robbers attacked a student lodge at Ndakitabu area of Lapai in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State on Monday, 23rd June 2025, at about 3 a.m., and stabbed 200-level student Jafar on the neck. He was rushed to Lapai General Hospital by police operatives for medical attention but was confirmed dead.”

The Commissioner of Police has since ordered a manhunt for the attackers, assuring the public that justice will be served.
