ABUJA – A political support group known as the People’s Organic Movement (POM), which aligns with the ideals of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has formally expressed interest in joining a newly formed coalition seeking to establish a fresh political party.
The coalition, led by Dr. Umar Ardo, is spearheading efforts to register a new party named the All Democratic Alliance (ADA). In a letter dated June 22, 2025, and signed by its National Chairman, Eliashib Ime-James, POM said it shares the coalition’s vision for Nigeria’s transformation and is eager to contribute to its mission.
“We believe that our shared values and vision for the country’s future align with the coalition’s objectives, and we are excited about the prospect of working together,” the letter stated.
POM emphasised its dedication to progressive ideals, social justice, and institutionalised good governance. The group also highlighted its commitment to economic development driven by local production and responsible consumption.
While the group has been linked to Peter Obi’s support base, the extent of its official connection to the former Labour Party candidate or the broader Obidient Movement remains unclear. A response to inquiries sent to the Obidient Movement was still pending at the time of this report.
POM’s request also included a call for a meeting with the coalition leadership to discuss its membership and further plans for the formation of the new political party.
The potential merger signals growing momentum among political interest groups seeking alternatives to Nigeria’s dominant political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
