PARIS — Former France and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has revealed he is in talks to return to professional football, with sources close to the 32-year-old confirming that Ligue 1 side AS Monaco is the club in question.
Pogba, speaking in a candid interview on French television on Sunday, expressed his determination to move past three tumultuous years that included injury setbacks, legal drama, and a doping suspension.
He said he wants to get back on the pitch, mentally and physically ready, and that it’s just a matter of time.
Pogba’s career was derailed after a failed drug test in August 2023 while at Juventus, which initially earned him a four-year ban. After a successful appeal, the ban was reduced to 18 months, ending in March 2025.
He also addressed the deeply personal trauma of an extortion case involving six men, including his own brother, Mathias Pogba. In December 2023, Mathias received a one-year prison sentence for his role in the attempted extortion of €13 million ($15 million) from Paul. The former France international had previously testified that he was held at gunpoint in 2022 by hooded men demanding money.
Mathias is currently serving his sentence under house arrest with an electronic bracelet. Despite the betrayal, Pogba says he has begun rebuilding their relationship.
He noted that it’s not the same as before, but they are in touch. He described it as a blood bond, acknowledging that while a scar remains, the family is trying to move forward.
Pogba reflected on how the scandals and suspension forced him to reassess his life. He said he has learned a lot during this period, cut off negative influences, and grown closer to his family and children.
Once among the world’s most high-profile midfielders with spells at Manchester United and Juventus, Pogba is now focused on rebuilding his career and personal life, with a potential new chapter in Monaco.
