Sunday Dare, Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has fired back at comments made by Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate. Baba-Ahmed had suggested during an interview on Arise Television that President Tinubu should not contest the 2027 presidential election, claiming that Nigerians would demand true democracy by then.
In a statement posted on his official X handle, Dare dismissed Baba-Ahmed’s remarks as incoherent and unfounded. He criticized the Labour Party politician’s arguments as “illogical” and “empty,” questioning his credibility and political insight.
Dare compared Baba-Ahmed’s commentary to the unreliable predictions of so-called “prophets” and slammed both Baba-Ahmed and his former running mate, Peter Obi, as a “double whammy” in Nigerian politics. He further mocked Baba-Ahmed’s political analysis, calling it unsuitable for even a basic political science class.
“The political logic he peddled during the interview is not fit for even a first-year political science student,” Dare said. “If theories could fly, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed and all the other Presidential Wannabes (PW) could have become President by now.”
Dare accused Baba-Ahmed of ignoring the substance of President Tinubu’s governance, focusing instead on theoretical musings about Nigeria’s future. He contended that Baba-Ahmed had failed to recognize Tinubu’s solid track record of political performance and his capacity for leadership.
He also criticized Baba-Ahmed’s assertion that Tinubu was not fulfilling his campaign promises, labeling it dishonest. Dare defended the President’s economic reforms, citing global recognition of their positive impact, including an acknowledgment from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) about Tinubu’s efforts to stabilize the economy.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Dare expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances of winning a second term. He dismissed the political theories of Baba-Ahmed and others, asserting that the President’s accomplishments would guarantee his victory, regardless of any opposition.
Dare concluded by suggesting that Baba-Ahmed focus on rebuilding his political career rather than making “poorly thought-out conjectures” in the media. He urged Baba-Ahmed to step aside for politicians with a proven track record of governance.
