Barcelona to Return to New Camp Nou on August 10 for Joan Gamper Trophy

Date:

FC Barcelona have announced their return to the iconic Camp Nou on August 10 for the Joan Gamper Trophy, marking a symbolic step back to their historic home after extensive renovation work.

The fixture, a traditional pre-season friendly, will serve as the partial reopening of the revamped stadium, with major construction efforts still ongoing. According to the club’s statement on Wednesday, the match will take place in a partially completed venue, with work continuing on the new third tier, VIP areas, stadium roof, interior structures, and surrounding facilities.

While Barcelona have yet to confirm the initial spectator capacity, local media reports suggest the reopened sections will accommodate around 35,000 fans.

“Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium,” the club said.

To allow more time for construction, the Catalan club has requested to play its first three La Liga matches of the upcoming season away from home. Full completion of the redevelopment, part of the “Espai Barca” project, is expected by summer 2026, with the upgraded stadium set to hold 105,000 spectators.

Barcelona had been using the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium for home games since the start of the renovation project in 2023, which has faced several delays.

The August return to Camp Nou is seen as a major milestone for the club as it transitions into a new chapter in its storied history.
