ABUJA – The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the suspension of its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, over allegations of financial misappropriation, constitutional breaches, and gross misconduct.
Also suspended are the party’s National Auditor, Nnadi Clarkson, and National Youth Leader, Chukwuma Uchechukwu.
The development was disclosed in a public notice signed by the SDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, on Sunday, June 30, 2025.
The party cautioned political stakeholders and the general public against transacting or collaborating with the affected officials, stating they no longer have the mandate to represent the SDP in any capacity.
According to the statement, the suspensions followed a meeting of the NWC held on June 24, 2025, during which preliminary evidence of financial impropriety and other infractions was reviewed.
“These suspensions are in accordance with the powers vested in the NWC by the 2022 Constitution of the SDP (as amended) and will remain in force pending the conclusion of internal investigations by the SDP Disciplinary Committee,” the notice read.
The party said it had formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the action, and the commission has acknowledged receipt.
Aiyenigba added that the decision was endorsed by a majority of NWC members to preserve the party’s integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement also revealed that law enforcement agencies are investigating related allegations of conspiracy, fraud, and misappropriation of party funds between 2022 and 2025.
Reaffirming its stance on transparency and ethical leadership, the SDP stressed that no individual is above its constitution or internal regulations.
