ABUJA — Nigerian social media activist, Vincent Otse Martins, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has stirred fresh controversy by sharing an alleged voice recording between music promoter Sam Larry and singer Zlatan Ibile, concerning the circumstances surrounding the death of late singer Mohbad.
In the audio clip, which has since gone viral, Zlatan can be heard speaking in Yoruba, expressing hesitation about getting involved in the controversy, citing the backlash that comes with online discourse.
Posting the recording on his Instagram page, VDM issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Zlatan, urging him to publicly clarify his silence during the widespread demand for justice following Mohbad’s sudden death in 2023.
“I expect in 48 hours Zlatan will come out to explain what he knows and why he did not speak out when we were seeking justice for Mohbad,” VDM said.
The activist, known for his bold social commentary, also addressed critics questioning his decision to revisit the case. He accused them of being apathetic and dishonest in their pursuit of justice.
“I deliberately brought this case back because I see a lot of you have moved on. That is why our government cannot take us seriously,” he added, noting that Mohbad is still yet to be buried.
VDM accused some individuals of knowing the truth but deliberately using intimidation and distractions to suppress it. He called out Zlatan specifically for remaining quiet despite allegedly having inside knowledge of the events.
“Zlatan, you kept quiet. I don start that case again. Anybody wey no like am, make e enter bush,” he said defiantly.
While many online supported Zlatan’s decision to remain silent, others echoed VDM’s call for transparency and demanded he break his silence on the matter.
As public attention reignites around the case, Mohbad’s family, fans, and rights advocates continue to await clarity on the unresolved circumstances surrounding the young artist’s tragic passing.
