ABUJA – President of the Ebonyi State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, Dr Eze Emmanuel Eze, has said the formation of an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections has significantly unsettled the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Dr Eze described the recent adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition’s central political platform as a “strategic and timely” move that has placed the APC on the defensive.
“The coalition has achieved one thing: the APC is now resorting to reactionary tactics. That, to me, is the beginning of the collapse of the house of cards that the APC actually represents,” Eze stated.
He pointed to the recent removal of APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, as proof of growing internal tensions and disarray within the ruling party.
Eze urged President Bola Tinubu to focus on delivering a credible general election in 2027, particularly if he intends not to contest.
“Tinubu should explore just one option. Let him focus on conducting a credible election without having himself on the ballot. That way, Nigerians will forgive him his shortcomings, because we are a truly religious nation,” he said.
The business leader, who is also affiliated with the Obidient Movement, criticised the APC, calling it a “special purpose vehicle” created purely to acquire power rather than serve the Nigerian people.
He praised the ideals of the Obidient Movement, highlighting its commitment to justice, peace, and equal access to national resources.
“For us in the Obidient Movement, we are focused on building a new Nigeria, where justice, peace, and progress moderate the distribution of national wealth and opportunities,” Eze said.
He further condemned the current administration for what he called “policy inconsistencies” and worsening socioeconomic conditions, adding that the suffering has awakened Nigerians to the realities of poor governance.
“Hunger and bad governance have kept Nigerians wide awake. Everybody is now vigilant. Nobody will wait to go to court instead of coming out to vote and settle scores at the polling booths,” he said.
Dr Eze expressed optimism about the opposition coalition’s ability to challenge the APC in 2027 and urged citizens not to lose faith.
“It has now dawned on us all that no politician rigs, buys votes, or steals elections to serve the people. APC’s focus was and still remains power grab and ostentatious display,” he added.
