The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ahiaukwu Ward 2, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, has suspended the state secretary of the party, Mr. Chidi Avajah, for allegedly breaching the party’s constitution.
In a statement released on Monday, signed by the Acting Ward Chairman, Nwabueze Ndumele, and Secretary, Ifeanyichukwu John, the ward leadership said the decision was made during a meeting held last Saturday at Okaiuga Civic Hall, Okwu Olokoro.
The ward also announced the suspension of another member, Onyekwere Chibuike Sylvester, for alleged impersonation. A seven-man disciplinary committee has been set up to probe the allegations against both officials.
According to the statement, Avajah was accused of hijacking party structures by unilaterally appointing an acting ward chairman following the death of the previous chairman, thereby disregarding congress-elected officials.
“The party further resolved to suspend the state secretary, Chief Chidi Avajah, for violating Article 21, Section A, subsections ii, vi, and vii of the constitution of our great party,” the statement read.
The ward also claimed Avajah had not paid monthly dues to the party, which they said contravened Article 9, Section 9.2, Subsection ii of the APC constitution.
Onyekwere Sylvester was suspended for allegedly posing as the chairman of Ahiaukwu Ward 2, an act deemed a violation of Article 21, Section A, Subsection iv.
The statement concluded with a pledge to reinforce discipline within the party and to work towards delivering all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
