LAGOS – The 2023 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has expressed optimism about achieving a Nigeria — and a Lagos — that works for all citizens. He made the comment following a meeting with the Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola.
Rhodes-Vivour disclosed the meeting via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, stating: “I had a great meeting earlier today with Rauf Aregbesola. The mission is clear and the commitment is unwavering.”
The development comes amid growing speculation about emerging political realignments and opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
PDP Disowns Alliance with ADC in Ondo
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has distanced itself from any form of coalition or alliance with the African Democratic Congress. In a statement on Wednesday, the party dismissed claims that its political structures were being transferred to ADC or any other party.
The PDP also advised its members not to be misled by ongoing political speculations. Similarly, its 2024 governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi, affirmed that he had no intention of defecting to the ADC.
Pro-Tinubu Group Dismisses ADC Coalition in Ondo
Also reacting, the Ondo State chapter of the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) labelled the ADC-led coalition’s bid to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027 as a “political mirage.”
In a statement announcing its new state, senatorial, and local government coordinators, the group’s Director of Media, Oyewamide Ojo, said the coalition lacked the credibility to influence meaningful political change.
Describing recent ADC defections of former PDP members as a “congregation of shadow chasers,” Ojo insisted that the coalition comprises individuals who had consistently failed at the polls.
As Nigeria’s political landscape begins to shift ahead of 2027, these statements underscore the deepening rivalry and internal debates among major parties and opposition movements.
