The Ondo State Police Command has debunked claims that it ordered Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to contribute N39,000 each for deployment to Lagos State ahead of the forthcoming Local Government elections.
In a statement issued Friday in Akure, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, described the allegation as false and misleading.
Media reports had suggested that DPOs in Ondo were being compelled to make financial contributions for personnel deployment. But Ayanlade firmly denied the reports, stressing that at no point did the command issue such a directive or compel officers to contribute money.
“The allegation is entirely baseless and a deliberate attempt to distort facts,” he said.
According to Ayanlade, the deployment of officers from neighbouring commands is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to ensure adequate security during the election. He added that inter-command cooperation is a standard procedure in the Nigeria Police Force.
He assured the public that the Ondo Police Command had made all necessary logistical and welfare arrangements for a smooth deployment process.
“A large number of officers have already reported at their assigned posts without any personal financial burden,” Ayanlade stated.
He criticised the report’s author for spreading misinformation and urged the public to disregard the publication, reaffirming the command’s commitment to professionalism and transparency.
“The command remains focused on delivering a people-centered, accountable, and law-abiding police service,” he said.
