The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has invited Nollywood actress and activist Iyabo Ojo to appear at its National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja over allegations of cyberbullying stemming from a 2023 live video related to the controversial death of singer Mohbad.
In a statement shared via her official Instagram page on Thursday, the Lagos-based actress explained that the police summons was based on petitions filed against her concerning the video in which she called for certain individuals to be investigated for their alleged involvement in the young singer’s death.
“I was recently invited by the Nigeria Police Force, National Cybercrime Centre, Abuja, over petitions bordering on cyberbullying & other allegations concerning the live video I recorded a few years ago,” she stated.
“In that video, I requested certain individuals to make themselves available for investigation into Mohbad’s sudden death in order to prove their innocence or otherwise.”
The police invitation comes months after the court discharged and acquitted music executive Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, of any complicity in Mohbad’s death.
Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Aloba, died in September 2023 under controversial circumstances, sparking widespread public outrage after videos emerged showing instances of bullying and harassment allegedly involving his former label boss and associates. The public pressure led to the arrest of Naira Marley and Sam Larry in October 2023.
Iyabo Ojo was a leading voice in the campaign demanding justice for Mohbad, regularly sharing updates, commentary, and criticism across social media platforms.
Following her accusations, Naira Marley filed a N500 million defamation suit against the actress in December 2023, demanding a public apology. Ojo responded with a countersuit, demanding N1 billion in damages.
As of the time of filing this report, the actress has not confirmed the date of her scheduled appearance before the police but maintains that her actions were driven by a quest for justice.
