KATSINA — The Katsina State Government has declared Monday a public holiday in honour of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday evening in London, United Kingdom.
The Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, announced the work-free day on Sunday night, stating that it would give residents an opportunity to mourn and pray for the late leader.
Faskari said the decision was taken to allow the people of Katsina, Buhari’s home state, to join the rest of the country in paying their respects and reflecting on the former president’s contributions to Nigeria.
The late Buhari, a native of Daura in Katsina State, served as Nigeria’s military ruler from 1983 to 1985 and later as a two-term civilian president from 2015 to 2023. He was widely regarded for his firm stance on anti-corruption and national unity.
“President Muhammadu Buhari was a statesman whose leadership and integrity left a lasting mark on the nation,” Faskari said. “May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”
