The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed allegations of secret endorsements ahead of the 2027 governorship race, amid growing concerns and protests from within the party.
Chairman of the party in the state, Hon. Adamu Bako Ningha, described the claims as baseless and unfounded, insisting that no aspirant has been officially endorsed by the party.
Ningha made the clarification on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ forum held in Lafia, the state capital. His remarks come in the wake of protests by a group known as the Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP Forum, Nasarawa South, led by Mallam Jibrin Idris Ibrahim. The group alleged that a July 10 meeting held at the residence of PDP North Central Zonal Secretary, Mr. Francis Orogu, was used to secretly endorse a particular aspirant—an action they argue contravenes party rules.
Responding to the claims, Ningha admitted that the meeting took place but stressed that it was a private gathering of stakeholders from Nasarawa South and not an official PDP function.
“The PDP in Nasarawa State has not endorsed any aspirant. We are committed to internal democracy and ensuring all aspirants have a level playing field,” he said.
He also defended Mr. Orogu against calls for disciplinary action, stating, “Hosting or attending a zonal meeting in your community is not a crime.”
Reacting to the controversy, Orogu described the allegations as politically motivated and peddled by “unknown party elements.” He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and called for unity among members.
“PDP is home for all lovers of democracy. Leaving or staying is a right, but we welcome those willing to return,” Orogu said, urging defectors to reconsider their stance.
Both leaders called for calm and urged members to remain united, noting that internal cohesion is essential as the party gears up for the 2027 general elections.
