Taiwo Awoniyi Returns to Full Training After Abdominal Surgery

Date:

Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has returned to full training, marking a major milestone in his recovery from a serious abdominal injury sustained in May.

The 27-year-old was sidelined after suffering a ruptured intestine, which required a complex two-stage surgical procedure. The initial operation, conducted in May, was followed by an induced coma to ensure intensive medical supervision. A second surgery, to close the wound, was carried out three days later.

After weeks of recovery and rehabilitation, Awoniyi has now rejoined his teammates on the training pitch for the first time since the incident.

His return was confirmed on Tuesday by Soar Super Eagles via X. The post read: “Taiwo Awoniyi returns to full training after that serious abdominal injury in May. Great to see him back on the grass.”

Awoniyi’s return is a welcome boost for both Nottingham Forest and Nigeria ahead of the new season and upcoming international fixtures.
