England striker Ivan Toney has expressed his frustration after discovering his car was broken into during a recent visit to London.
The 28-year-old, who currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, is spending his summer break in the UK but had an unpleasant experience while in the capital. Toney shared a photo on Instagram showing the smashed front and rear windows of his black vehicle, captioned: “This is why I hate London.”
The break-in reportedly occurred while Toney was in the city attending the Wireless Festival in Finsbury Park, where he was spotted alongside fellow footballers Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke. It is unclear if anything was stolen or where exactly in London the incident took place.
The incident comes amid rising concerns over urban crime in London. More than 950,000 crimes were reported in the city last year, including over 31,000 offences on public transport between January and August. Critics, including former Metropolitan Police officers, have warned of a growing sense of impunity among offenders.
Toney, who moved to Al-Ahli in a £40 million deal from Brentford last year, enjoyed a stellar debut season in Saudi Arabia, scoring 30 goals. However, his England future remains uncertain. Despite being called up for June matches against Andorra and Senegal, he made only a brief appearance in the 3-1 defeat to Senegal and stayed on the bench during the 1-0 win over Andorra.
England will play Andorra again in September at Wembley, followed by fixtures against Serbia, Wales, and Latvia. Whether Toney will feature in Gareth Southgate’s plans remains to be seen.
