In response to escalating violence in Minna, the capital of Niger State, Governor Umar Bago has imposed a strict dusk-to-dawn curfew, effective from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.The decision, announced during a high-level security meeting at the Government House on Tuesday, follows a disturbing rise in attacks, killings, and general insecurity across the city.As part of the curfew, commercial motorcycle and tricycle operations are also banned during the restricted hours. Governor Bago, however, clarified that individuals facing medical emergencies will be exempt.“We can no longer sit idly while criminals continue to terrorise innocent citizens. This curfew is one of the urgent measures we are taking to restore peace and order,” he stated. To further tighten security, the governor directed district, village, and ward heads to properly document all visitors in their communities. He also issued a stern warning that any property found harbouring criminals or serving as a base for drug cartels will be demolished.Residents of Minna have been living in fear due to the recent wave of thuggery and violence. The governor assured the public that the state government remains fully committed to ending the unrest and restoring safety to the capital.
