Legal counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on rural communities to take proactive steps in defending their ancestral lands from violent herdsmen attacks.Ejiofor made the call in a statement on Tuesday, expressing deep concern over the continued killings in states like Benue and Plateau. He criticized the government’s failure to provide lasting solutions, describing the official response as weak and ineffective.“In the days leading to Easter, and with chilling boldness on its eve, coordinated attacks by terror herdsmen swept through Benue and Plateau States, leaving dozens dead,” Ejiofor said. “This has become a recurring national tragedy.”He questioned the sincerity of political leaders who praise federal efforts while simultaneously pleading for more support. According to Ejiofor, such contradictory messages highlight the failure of state and federal authorities to protect lives.He also noted that despite presidential orders and public condemnations, the attacks continue with little to no action on the ground. “These statements have become mere echoes in the media, with no real protection for vulnerable communities,” he stated.Given this reality, Ejiofor urged indigenous groups to take lawful measures to protect themselves. “Our people must urgently organize within legal bounds to safeguard their lands and heritage. The persistent violence demands a united and determined response,” he concluded.
