Veteran Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has revealed the reason behind her decision to cut ties with her industry colleagues after getting married.
Speaking during a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, the actress disclosed that she deliberately blocked everyone in the film industry shortly after marrying Olayiwola Abdulwakilu and relocating to the United States.
Opeyemi, who was off-screen for over a decade, said the decision was rooted in her determination to protect her marriage from the challenges often associated with relationships in the entertainment industry.
“I was off the scene for more than ten years, and I apologised to my fans. I held my marriage in high esteem, so I blocked everybody’s contact in the industry,” she said.
The actress, now a mother of two, emphasized that societal perceptions of instability in celebrity marriages pushed her to distance herself from Nollywood temporarily.
“Let’s appreciate our lovers because they caused it. Some of them will say practitioners don’t have stable homes or lives, but they don’t know what happens behind those relationships. So, because I didn’t want my own to be like that, I blocked everyone from the industry for 10 years,” she explained.
Opeyemi added that she has since reconnected with her colleagues and resumed her career after focusing on raising her children.
“I unblocked everybody when I finally returned to focus on my career. I have two boys, and I have sacrificed everything for them. They should now allow me to also carve my own career,” she said.
