Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has been awarded Spotify’s Billion plaque after her hit collaboration with Future and Drake, Wait For U, surpassed one billion streams on the platform.
With this feat, Tems joins Wizkid, Rema, and Tyla as Afrobeats artists who have reached the billion-stream milestone on Spotify.
Wait For U earned Tems her first Grammy Award, winning Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2023. The track also made history in 2022 when it debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making Tems the first African artist to achieve the feat.
