Zamfara Gov’s Aide Urges Political Parties to Shun Vote Buying Ahead of Bye-Election

Date:

GUSAU — As Zamfara prepares for the Kaura Namoda South State Assembly bye-election, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Alhaji Iliyasu Maijega, has appealed to political parties to strictly adhere to electoral laws and avoid vote buying.

Speaking with journalists in Gusau on Thursday, Maijega stressed the importance of a free and credible electoral process. He urged parties to steer clear of malpractice, including the buying of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), ahead of the August 16 poll.

The bye-election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is being held to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Alhaji Aminu Kasuwar-Daji, who represented the constituency until his passing in April.

Maijega reiterated that the state government under Governor Dauda Lawal is firmly opposed to electoral malpractice.

“Gov. Dauda Lawal is totally against vote buying and other election irregularities,” he said. “I appeal to all political parties to desist from such actions and allow the electorate to vote freely.”

He called on parties to cooperate with INEC and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, credible, and transparent election process.

“All political actors should allow voters to exercise their rights without intimidation,” Maijega said. “We must support INEC in its efforts to deliver a fair poll.”

The governor’s aide also expressed optimism about the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the bye-election.

“We are confident of winning because of our track record in infrastructure, education, health, and empowerment over the past two years,” he stated.

Maijega urged INEC to work closely with security agencies to maintain order during the election and ensure the safety of voters and officials.
