Paris Saint-Germain were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Nantes in a rearranged Ligue 1 match on Tuesday night, but the result ensured their unbeaten domestic run continues as they prepare for a Champions League semi-final showdown with Arsenal.
Midfielder Vitinha opened the scoring for the champions in the 34th minute with a precise half-volley, and it appeared his strike would be enough to secure victory. But with just six minutes remaining, Nantes responded through Douglas Augusto, who finished off a driving run by Matthis Abline to earn the hosts a crucial point in their survival battle.
Despite the late equaliser, PSG came close to snatching a winner in stoppage time when substitute Goncalo Ramos headed a Desire Doue cross off the crossbar.
The draw means PSG remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season and are now just four matches away from completing an entire French top-flight campaign without a single loss — a feat never achieved in the competition’s history. The closest attempt remains Nantes’ 1994/95 title-winning campaign, when they lost only once all season.
The match also marked a historic milestone for PSG, as they extended their unbeaten away run in Ligue 1 to 39 matches, breaking AC Milan’s European top-league record of 38 away games unbeaten, set between 1991 and 1993.
“Today is a special day for us, beating AC Milan’s record. I congratulate my players for that,” said PSG coach Luis Enrique, who rotated his squad with an eye on upcoming fixtures.
PSG controlled possession but struggled to convert dominance into clear-cut chances. Nantes, meanwhile, impressed with their resilience and attacking intent. Jean-Charles Castelletto was denied by a sharp Gianluigi Donnarumma save before Augusto’s late goal sparked celebrations among the 34,000 fans at the Stade de la Beaujoire.
Nantes coach Antoine Kombouare praised his team’s spirit, saying, “We didn’t just defend well but also played good football and created chances… It is a really well-deserved point.”
The fixture had been rescheduled from April 12-13 to give PSG rest between their Champions League quarter-final legs against Aston Villa. They now face Nice on Friday before heading to London for the first leg of their semi-final against Arsenal next Tuesday.
Coach Enrique is expected to rotate again against Nice, having rested key players like Achraf Hakimi and started others such as Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue from the bench in Nantes.
