Charly Boy Backs ‘Lagos Is No Man’s Land’ View, Compares City to New York

Date:

Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has declared his support for the popular notion that Lagos does not belong to any specific tribe in Nigeria.

Speaking on News Central TV, Charly Boy likened Lagos to New York City, calling it a melting pot of diverse cultures and ethnicities. He said the city’s vibrancy comes from the mix of people who reside there, similar to how immigrants shape New York.

“This is our first capital, so it has people from different ethnic groups who make Lagos really bubble,” he said. “From that perspective, in terms of people coming together, it is really a no man’s land. Lagos is like the New York of Nigeria.”

Charly Boy also criticised the Lagos State Government over its decision to rename a bus stop in Bariga from his name to that of popular rapper Olamide Baddo. He accused the government of “acting out tribal politics” and described its actions as “jittery.”
