Mbeumo Excited to Link Up with Fernandes After £65m Manchester United Move

Date:

Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo has expressed excitement over teaming up with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes after completing his high-profile switch from Brentford to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old winger joined United last week in a deal worth £65 million, with an additional £6 million in potential add-ons, following protracted negotiations. Mbeumo, who bagged 20 goals and seven assists in the Premier League last season, signed a five-year contract, becoming United’s third summer signing.

Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Mbeumo singled out Fernandes as the teammate he is most eager to work with.

“Everyone has seen it over the years — he can shoot, he can cross, he can play crazy balls,” Mbeumo said. “For a striker, you just enjoy that.”

He added that Fernandes’ intelligence on the field makes him a dream partner: “When you’re smart like he is, you don’t even need to think a lot. Just make the run and he’ll play the ball in the right space.”

Mbeumo acknowledged the importance of understanding each other’s preferences, but emphasised trust in Fernandes’ creativity. “Even if it’s not the way you like, you just make the run — he’ll put it in a good position.”

The winger’s arrival adds further attacking depth to Erik ten Hag’s squad, following the recent signings of Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno.

United, who are currently on a pre-season tour of the United States, continue to be linked with strikers Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko as they gear up for their Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 17.

Mbeumo also praised Watkins, his former Brentford teammate, calling him a “complete striker” who “can do a lot of things.”

United fans will now be watching closely to see how the pacy winger combines with Fernandes in what is shaping up to be a reshaped and ambitious attacking lineup.
