Atalanta CEO Confirms Ademola Lookman Wants Summer Exit

Date:

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has revealed that Nigerian winger and reigning African Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman, has formally requested a transfer away from the club during this summer’s transfer window.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Percassi stated that Lookman’s desire to leave had been known for some time.

“Ademola has been expressing his desire to leave for some time; it’s no secret,” he said. “In all our discussions, he was a player that should have left this summer, in keeping with our club philosophy of one transfer per year.”

The Atalanta chief added that while there had been widespread interest in the Super Eagles star, the club only received a formal offer for the player earlier this week. That bid is understood to be worth €42 million, with an additional €3 million in potential bonuses.

Percassi did not confirm the bidding club but noted that he maintains a close professional relationship with Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta. This has fuelled speculation that the Nerazzurri could be the frontrunners to land the prolific forward.

“In the coming days, we will calmly evaluate the offer we have received and then respond,” Percassi said. “The timing and value of Atalanta outgoing transfers are solely determined by the club.”

Lookman, 26, has been a key figure at Atalanta over the past three seasons, registering an impressive 52 goals and 25 assists in 118 appearances. He famously led the Italian side to their first-ever European title two seasons ago, scoring a historic hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final.

With his explosive pace, technical skill, and consistent end product, Lookman has attracted interest from top clubs across Europe and the Middle East. His potential departure would mark a significant loss for Atalanta, but a major gain for any club that secures his signature.
