Controversial activist and social media critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), broke down in tears on Wednesday after news emerged that popular Anambra businessman Ifesinachi Onyekere, also known as “Fish Magnet”, had been killed by kidnappers.
According to DAILY POST, Onyekere, the son of a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, was abducted on Saturday after gunmen stormed his residence in Ezinifite, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area. His lifeless body was found four days later, triggering widespread outrage and grief across the country.
Reacting in an emotional video posted on his official Facebook page, VeryDarkMan tearfully decried the worsening security situation in Anambra and across Nigeria. He questioned the safety of entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens amid the growing spate of kidnappings and killings.
“The kidnapping and killings in Anambra State is too much. What is the hope of the entrepreneurs, what is the hope of those going into business in Nigeria?” he asked, visibly distressed.
VDM also announced plans to travel to Anambra State on August 4th to honour the slain businessman with a candlelight procession, adding that the date would be adjusted to avoid clashing with the regular sit-at-home order in the region.
“We’ll do a walk in the fish market and raise awareness on the kidnappings going on in Anambra State,” he said.
The activist’s emotional reaction has further drawn attention to the alarming insecurity in parts of the South-East, where abductions and violence continue to unsettle communities and threaten economic activity.
