President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engineer Ahmed Musa Kida, is heading to Abidjan to support D’Tigress as they prepare for a crucial quarter-final showdown against Cameroon at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
The encounter is set for Thursday at 10pm Nigerian time at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, where Nigeria will aim to extend their dominance and move closer to an unprecedented fifth consecutive AfroBasket title.
Kida, who also chairs NNPC Plc, has been at the helm of Nigerian basketball for eight years. His leadership has seen D’Tigress rise to continental and global prominence—highlighted by a historic quarter-final berth at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the first by an African team in women’s basketball.
Beyond administrative roles, Kida has frequently stood courtside, funding and motivating the team through decisive moments.
D’Tigress enter the tie on a high, having crushed Rwanda 92–45 and edged Mozambique 60–55 to reach the last eight. They now face Cameroon—the last team to defeat Nigeria in AfroBasket history, back in 2015. Since that loss, the team has gone on a 26-game unbeaten streak in the competition.
A win will set up a semifinal clash against either Senegal or Côte d’Ivoire, and bring them a step closer to qualifying for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
