Wike Defends Tinubu Administration, Says No Government Can Solve All Problems

Date:

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that while it is unrealistic to expect any government to solve all of a nation’s problems, the administration of President Bola Tinubu is taking meaningful steps to improve the lives of Nigerians.

Wike made the remarks on Monday during a media parley in Abuja, where he addressed public concerns about project implementation and the visibility of developmental efforts in the FCT.

“I will not say here that every problem has been solved. All problems cannot be solved, even if this government stays for 20 years; no government can solve all problems,” the former Rivers State governor said. “But government is solving problems that will at least help to improve the lives of people.”

Responding to questions about why some projects are not formally flagged off or commissioned, Wike explained that the administration focuses on highlighting large-scale, capital-intensive projects that involve substantial financial investment. He said smaller interventions are still being executed but are not always publicised through official ceremonies.

“It is not possible to commission every project. We take what we think are major, capital-intensive projects, ones where billions of naira have been spent, and showcase those. But when you’re talking about smaller projects, must we commission everything?” he asked.

The minister encouraged journalists to collaborate with government officials by visiting project sites with Mandate Secretaries to observe ongoing work in key sectors like education and social development.

“We’re not saying we’ve done everything. But we are doing what will at least make a difference in the lives of the people, and that’s the whole point of governance,” Wike said.

He concluded by calling for objective assessment of the administration’s efforts, stating, “You must appreciate when a government has done well. You don’t need to like the person in charge.”
