Nigeria’s D’Tigress sealed a historic fifth straight FIBA Women’s AfroBasket crown on Sunday night with a 78–64 win over Mali, capping off a dominant campaign in Abidjan. The night also spotlighted individual brilliance, led by Nigeria’s Amy Okonkwo, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the second consecutive time.
Okonkwo delivered a stellar performance in the final, racking up 19 points, nine rebounds, and three assists to lead her team to a record-extending seventh continental title.
While players were honoured for their individual contributions, Nigeria’s coach Rena Wakama, who guided the team to back-to-back titles in her first two appearances, received no official recognition—despite her historic achievement.
The All-Star Five lineup featured Amy Okonkwo (Nigeria), Cierra Dillard (Senegal), Delicia Washington (South Sudan), Jane Asinde (Uganda), and Sika Koné (Mali), reflecting the growing competitiveness of women’s basketball across Africa.
