Fresh off Chelsea’s triumph at the FIFA Club World Cup, Nigerian-born defender Tosin Adarabioyo has returned to Lagos in celebration—not just of silverware, but of his roots.
The 26-year-old centre-back, who recently helped Chelsea secure the prestigious global title, touched down in Nigeria to a warm welcome from fans and football lovers. His visit, however, extended beyond celebration as he launched the inaugural Tosin Adarabioyo Youth Cup—an initiative aimed at inspiring and developing young football talent in the country.
Adarabioyo expressed his pride in reconnecting with his heritage and celebrating Chelsea’s victory with Nigerian supporters. He noted that coming back to Nigeria after such a career milestone was deeply meaningful.
He said it felt great to return home, adding that it reflects how important his heritage is to him. He explained that he wanted to celebrate with his people, especially considering Nigeria’s massive Chelsea fan base, who deserve to share in the club’s success.
The youth cup brought together aspiring footballers in Lagos and marked a significant step in the defender’s growing commitment to talent development. Adarabioyo, who once dreamt of making it big himself, explained that giving back was a duty.
He said he’s simply doing his part to encourage and support young players, while showing them what’s possible. He hopes to see even more Nigerian heritage players rise to the top leagues around the world.
