Nigeria Crash Out of Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers After Zimbabwe Defeat

Date:

The Female Yellow Greens’ hopes of progressing at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 ended on Wednesday after a 10-wicket defeat to Zimbabwe in Namibia.

Batting first, Nigeria were bowled out for 90 runs in 19.5 overs, despite a solid effort from wicketkeeper Sarah Etim, who top-scored with 25 off 22 balls. Omonkhobhio Oseyande (16 off 10) and captain Peculiar Agboya (12 off 16) also chipped in, but regular wickets halted any momentum.

Zimbabwe’s bowling attack, spearheaded by Josephine Nkomo, proved too strong for the Nigerians.

In reply, Zimbabwe chased down the target with ease, reaching 93 without loss in 14.2 overs. Openers Kelis Ndlovu (44 off 46) and Modester Mapachikwa (36 off 40) produced an unbeaten partnership that Nigeria’s bowlers could not break.

The result saw Nigeria finish third in their group with two points from their lone win against Sierra Leone, while Zimbabwe and hosts Namibia advanced to the semi-finals. The Female Yellow Greens will now play in the classification matches.
