PDP Governors Greet Muslims on Eid-el-Maulud, Warn Against Slide to Dictatorship

Date:

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have extended greetings to Muslims on the celebration of Eid-el-Maulud while warning that Nigeria is edging dangerously close to dictatorship.

In a goodwill message issued on Friday, the PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, congratulated Muslims and urged them to emulate the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The forum’s Director General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, who signed the statement, said the Prophet’s teachings of peace, tolerance, and service to humanity remained essential to Nigeria’s pursuit of stability.

“Today, we honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), whose life and teachings continue to illuminate the path of compassion, justice, and unity for millions around the world,” the statement read.

The governors, however, raised concerns over what they described as growing disconnection between Nigerians and the services owed them by government. They accused the current administration of edging toward authoritarianism while citizens continue to grapple with worsening hardship.

“Today, our country is at a crossroad as Nigerians get disconnected from the constituted services they deserve. As we inch daily to full-blown dictatorship with its attendant abuse of power and citizens live in abject penury in the face of plenty, leadership is once again called to urgently address insecurity, our compromised judicial system, failed economic policies resulting in intolerable hunger, poverty and unemployment,” the statement added.

The governors urged Muslims to let the Prophet’s legacy guide their lives, stressing that humility, accountability, and truth are necessary to restore faith in governance.

“Let this day be a reminder of the values we should uphold and share — public service with accountability, kindness without expectation, humility, and the pursuit of truth to rebuild the faith of our citizens in our country,” the governors said.
