Osun Govt Backs Deputy Governor Amid Anti-Party Allegations

Date:

The Osun State Government has dismissed concerns that allegations of anti-party activities against Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi would affect his position, stressing that Governor Ademola Adeleke continues to repose confidence in him.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said Adewusi remained loyal to the administration despite the controversy in Ife Federal Constituency. He described the dispute as a “family matter” being handled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership.

“By whatever yardstick, the government still reposes strong confidence in him as the second in command to the governor. His position is not in any way affected by the controversy,” the statement read.

The government also reaffirmed its confidence in former PDP National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, noting that he retains his seat on the party’s Board of Trustees and his role as chairman of the Osun State University Governing Council.

The clarification followed a vote of no confidence passed by 39 PDP leaders in Ife Federal Constituency against Adewusi, Oladipo, and Ife East PDP chairman, Olasunkanmi Makinde. The trio were accused of fraternising with Bimbo Ajilesoro, the lawmaker representing Ife Federal Constituency, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among those who signed the communique were two cabinet members — Commissioner for Political Affairs, Biyi Odunlade, and Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole.

Reacting, the PDP state chairman, Sunday Bisi, urged all parties to avoid escalation, assuring that the crisis would be resolved internally. The state government also appealed for calm and commended the party’s swift intervention through peaceful dialogue.
