Ogun State Governor Lauds Remo Stars for Historic NPFL Title Win

Date:

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised Remo Stars Football Club for their groundbreaking victory over Niger Tornadoes, securing the club’s first-ever Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title. The team triumphed with a 1-0 victory on Sunday, April 27, marking a significant milestone in Ogun State’s sporting history.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Governor Abiodun commended Remo Stars for demonstrating the resilience and determination that Ogun State is known for. He highlighted that the team’s consistent pursuit of excellence had paid off, not only earning them the 2024-2025 NPFL title but also securing their promotion to the elite league just four years ago.

Governor Abiodun urged other Nigerian football clubs to draw inspiration from Remo Stars’ perseverance and strive to elevate the nation’s domestic football league. He further emphasized that the victory was a reflection of Ogun State’s commitment to excellence in all fields, in line with the state’s ISEYA transformation agenda.

“This victory is a testament to the unwavering determination of the players, coaching staff, and the entire management team. As the first privately-owned NPFL champions since 1996, securing a place in the CAF Champions League, Remo Stars has set a new standard for local football,” Governor Abiodun said.

The Governor also expressed his pride that the success of Remo Stars had gained national recognition, including admiration from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting local sports development.
